Innovative Learning Practices
This is a school with a long tradition of academic excellence and creativity within an exceptionally warm and supportive environment.
At Chitkara International School, we encourage our students to pursue the subjects that excite them, to discover their passions, discuss, debate and think for themselves. Our teachers are committed to develop each child’s abilities and to foster independent learning and the confidence to rise to new intellectual challenges. Teachers share a conviction that all children are naturally curious and want to learn. The teachers nurture this curiosity and develop innovative and engaging hands on curricula to help each child build upon their current understanding of each subject area. At CIS, we create unique and dynamic innovative learning practices which ensure a highly enriching and challenging educational experience as no two children process information the same way. We identify the learning strengths of each child and offer avenues to learn through these strengths.
The learning practices at Chitkara International School are Practical and Innovative. The learning practices are innovative which aim at engaging a student and ensure learning at every step. The learning practices are practical and relevant to the needs of the 21st century .The innovative practices have been designed keeping ‘learning’ in perspective and not ‘testing’ in perspective. The innovative learning practices at Chitkara International School start at the early childhood education programs from implanting learning clues in the brain of the child to clarify concepts to the creative furniture of the school which is its patent and conducive to the games that are part of the learning cycle. Also the concept of word wall starts from Chicklets (playway) onwards where the child works on process of adding a wide range of vocabulary for better expression for future preparation. In the primary and middle year programs the innovative learning practices involve the word walls and then word walls turning into word webs, word searches, word ladders, password of the day and brain work. Also various learning strategies are adopted to ensure learning through weaving, chaining, drilling, feeding, eliciting, role play, pair work, group work, project based learning, inquiry based learning etc. Also the lesson plans are designed keeping in mind the three stages at Chitkara International School which involves the 3 P’s i.e. Presentation stage, The controlled practice stage and The free practice stage. Since these years involve more of absorption to be done by the child a lot is done to ensure a comfortable learning experience in the initial years of formal learning. As far as the secondary programs are concerned, this stage is more of an output stage where the child exhibits what he has learnt over these years. This stage also involves learning with 3P s and word wall, word web, word searches all turning into language composition and expression. Here the learning is more of application based and inquiry based. Also interdisciplinary learning, flipped classroom, blended learning, problem based and project based learning forms a considerable part of the learning cycle at this level. The students are prone to brain storming sessions in the form of ASSET, OBR’s (Open Book Revisions), Out of the box questions and Olympiads of all subjects, innovative ways of Assessment touching the applicative level of Bloom’s Taxonomy where the focus is not rote learning, but ability of the child to understand and comprehend the topic and his ability to apply it.
We at Chitkara International School give an immense exposure to our students to the outer world through Industry-Academia Interface, Intra and Inter Faculty Collaborations keeping in mind the latest trends and requirements of various industries. For this reason, we have thoroughly researched after studying various industries and came up with a complete package of Technology Curriculum in the form of “Tek 8 Programme”. This programme not only include Computer Science but also the different technologies used in our day to day life namely Electronics, Mobile , Automobiles, Energy, Robotics and House Hold technology thereby helping the students connect to the real world. Also various learning patterns and styles are studied before the child becomes part of the Chitkara family. Introducing and designing of the concept maps by the students for each and every lesson initiate them to engulf the concept thoroughly into their brain cells, thereby initialize them to pen down their imbibed concepts on to anything and anywhere. There are ample opportunities for children to experience group work, role plays, peer learning; self study etc. so as to adapt to various learning situations. Chitkara’s in-house publications at every stage is again one of the main ingredient of an innovative practice after a rigorous research done by the Research and Development team along with the subject experts. This again helps in the making the learning more easy and conceptualised.
Also, we believe that effective teaching involves collecting assessments over time, providing just in time feedback to the students and parents through SPOC SESSIONS, PTM’s, and CHAT SESSIONS eventually help them to streamline their path of success.
