TEDxYouth@Chitkara School

Chitkara International School will organize its first TEDxYouth@ChitkaraSchool event on Saturday, 16th November 2013. CIS is the first and only school in Tricity to get the license to host this TEDx Event. This event will be especially for our school students and it will give them an exposure to different ideas evolving around them and would inspire them to think out of the box.

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “Ideas worth Spreading”. This platform was designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED like experience at the local level. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design.

TTEDxYouthDay is a series of TEDx events happening all around the world coinciding with Universal Children’s Day in late November. These events are designed to empower and inspire young people. November 16-17, 2013, will see number of TEDxYouth event happening all across the globe. On 16th November 2013, Chitkara International School will be the only school to host this event from India along with other 80 TEDxYouth events happening simultaneously across the world.

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Long Beach, California, along with the TEDActive simulcast in Palm Springs; the annual TEDGlobal conference is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

General Information

In 2009 TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

Our event is called TEDxYouth@ChitkaraSchool, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouth@ChitkaraSchool event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will be combined to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

We have selected three prominent speakers from different industries (Technology, Entertainment & Design domain) to be a part of our first TEDxYouth@ChitkaraSchool. They will enlighten our students with their inspiring talks and would also share their unique ideas. They are:

Chandni Sikand

Our 1st live speaker for the event – Chandni Sikand. She holds Masters in Business Administration from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. Chandni’s first job was in corporate banking. After a short stint, she moved on to uncharted territories in the lighting Industry. In the last few years, she has authored articles on Energy Efficiency as well. She also heads VNV Enterprises Pvt Ltd, which owns myGREENkart.com, an online store for natural and Eco friendly goods. The idea behind this online venture was to spread awareness about green living and how each one of us can contribute to “make our planet happy”.

Mr. Sudarshan Juyal

A simple and creative personality – Mr. Sudarshan Juyal, our second speaker for TEDxYouth@ChitkaraSchool. Born and brought up in Nainital, Mr. Juyal brings along with him a vast experience in the field of Theatre and Arts. He is a post graduate in History and a pass out from National School of Drama. He has directed and designed more than 25 productions.

He holds Post – Graduation Diploma in Film Direction from Film and Television Institute of India, and has worked with Shekhar Kapur, Vijay Anand & Dr. Chandra Prakash Dwivedi. Directed few TV serials and worked with Sahara One in the programming department. His strength is in his uncanny sense of script and story editing, writing and developing ideas targeting masses.

At present, he is conducting learning exchange workshops around film making, theatre, photography, Origami, waste paper up-cycling. He is also engaged in making documentaries (in post production stage).
